March 06 to 14 – Pacific Rim Whale festival

Events are held throughout Tofino, Ucluelet and the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. The Festival will offer over 90 activities and attractions in various locations throughout Tofino, Ucluelet, and the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. May 07 – Tofino Shorebird Festival

Watch flocks of shorebirds darting along the Tofino shoreline foraging for food. Just beneath the surface of the sand and mud are millions of small worms that these birds feed on to replenish their reserves, before continuing their journey to the north. Every year beginning in mid-to-late April flocks of sandpipers, plovers, whimbrels, and many other shorebirds pass through the Tofino area. This is the 13th Annual Tofino Shorebird Festival organised by the Raincoast Education Society.

May 10 to 14 – Tofino Film Festival

The 2010 Tofino Indigenous Film Festival will be showing a combination of short and feature length films to the local audience and Ethnobiology Congress participants. Some of these films are made by Indigenous peoples and some made with Indigenous peoples, all of them highlight ethnobiology issues in Indigenous communities around the world. The theme of this year’s Tofino Indigenous Film Festival is: Sacred Spaces and their impact on conservation.

June 04 to 06 -  Tofino Food + Wine Festival

This event is set in the Tofino Botanical Gardens, with associated events being hosted by participating Tofino restaurants. This is the 8th annual joint fundraiser event for Tofino’s Childrens Centre and the Botanical Gardens. Winemakers from the Okanagan, Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island will showcase their best wines, alogside with the local chefs featuring their culinary dishes. tofinofoodandwinefestival

June 13 – 11th Annual Edge 2 Edge Marathon

The Full Marathon(42.2 km) and the Relay Marathon(teams of 5) will start from Tofino, racing through the scenic Pacific Rim National Park and finish in Ucluelet. The 2010 Edge to Edge Marathon is shaping up to be a record event with more runners currently registered than there were on race day last year. The relay category and half marathon are now full and closed. There are still spaces available for those wishing to take part in the full 42.2km run.

July 01 to 15 – The Pacific Rim Summer Festival

The Pacific Rim Arts Society is proud to be presenting their 20th Annual Pacific Rim Summer festival. There are many diverse types of performances and showings in Tofino, Ucluelet and in the Pacific Rim National Park.

August 28 – 10th Annual Tofino Lantern Festival

A great event for all ages. This is the 7th year event to be held at the Tofino Botanical Gardens. The Tofino Lantern festival, is a fundraiser for the Raincoast Interpretive Center, sponsored by the Raincoast Education Society in Tofino. A variety of hand made lanterns will be on display. The Raincoast Interpretive Centre is holding a Lantern Making Event from noon -5 on August, 27th, the cost is $10 with all supplies include.

September 21 to 23 – Westcoast Maritime Festival

This is the 3rd Annual Westcoast Maritime Festival organized by the Tonquin Foundation. The event will start at 6pm on Friday September 21st with Dinner Cruise out into Clayoquot Sound. Local historians and First Nations storytellers are at hand to provide a fully interpreted voyage into the region’s past history. You can enjoy a sumptuous feast provided by some of the finest local eaterie.

October 19 to 24 – O’Neill Cold Water Classic Surf Competition

The O’Neil Cold Water Classic Series blending adventure, exploration, surf and competition,  makes a much-anticipated return for 2010. The CWC Series will once again return to the start in the wilds of Tasmania, Australia on March 23rd before heading to Scotland, South Africa, Canada and Santa Cruz, California. The world’s best surfers will be competing for the prestige of winning the O’Neill CWC Series and the $50,000 prize money. Last year.

November 18 to 21 – Clayoquot Oyster Festival

This series of events takes place in Tofino, with some events taking place at oyster farms in Clayoquot Sound. The Clayoquot Oyster Festival is a celebration of the abundance and high qualify oysters. Most of the oyster farms in Clayoquot Sound, culture their oysters on long lines in the clean, cold waters. Currently about 50,000 gallons of Pacific Oysters (Crassiostrea Gigas) are harvested annually in the area.

Stormwatching – December to March

Strong winter winds cause massive swells and huge waves pounding against the area’s beaches. The experience is found to be exhilarating when you feel when see the forces of nature that are so much bigger and more powerful than us. Some of the best spots to watch the crashing waves are South Beach in the Pacific Rim National Park, Wickaninnish Beach, Long Beach, Chesterman Beach and Cox Bay in Tofino. stormwatching
