Attractions around Long Beach

Long Beach portion of the Pacific Rim National Park is the most accessible and most developed component of the Pacific Rim National Park. Long Beach is a rare Canadian natural treasure – it has a diversed eco-system along its coastline and the rugged, pristine wilderness forest inland. The wave-washed sandy beaches of Long Beach are popular with tourists. The long rolling waves of Long Beach make surfing a faourite past time for beginners and the most experienced. In winter, powerful winds stirred up huge storm waves produces the best peeling surf of long, rolling waves for surfing.

Broken Island Group

The Broken Island Group is an area of the Pacific Rim Park, situated south of Ucluelet in the entrance to Barclay Sound. The Broken Group is accessible only by boat, and features an island archipelago, with numerous inlets, spectacular scenery and incredible recreational opportunities for salt water fishing, ocean kayaking, scuba diving. The area is rich in marine life, renowned for its sandy beaches, serene coves and incredible scenery. Many guided tours are available from Tofino, Ucluelet and Long Beach.

Hiking the West Coast Trail. The world-famous trail starts at Long Beach on the south side of the Broken Group and ends in Port Renfrew. The trail gives hikers the opportunity to experience pure wilderness in a hike that takes between 5 to 7 days. Trail permits are required to hike this 77 km (48 miles) temperate rainforest.

Meares Island is the location of some very manificent old growth trees, are between 800 and 1300 years old. These trees are huge and something to marvel at. Take your time to hike through the forest and explore the many lifeforms lurking beneath the fern carpeted forest floor.
